EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches.  EMDR is an evidence based treatment for post traumatic stress and is also used  to help treat panic attacks, complicated grief, dissociative disorders, disturbing memories, phobias, pain disorders, performance anxiety, stress reduction, addictions, sexual and/or physical abuse, body dysmorphic disorders, and personality disorders. (Source: EMDRIA.org).  I view EMDR as a more holistic approach because it integrates maladaptive beliefs about oneself, emotions and feelings, and somatic (body) experiences associated with a distressing issue or event to allow processing and healing so that one can truly feel better on a gut level.

Somatic EMDR and Natural Processing

Natural Processing (NP), developed by Craig Penner, LMFT , is the somatically-based process-oriented therapy from emerged from his years of experience working with different approaches to healing and growth.  NP heightens our awareness and connection to our body and nervous system, and thus facilitates process and resolution on a deeper level.  Used with an EMDR approach, NP includes Bilateral Stimulation (BLS) most  commonly in the form of tapping.  As the name suggests, NP organically uncovers nonverbally held processes that may keep us from fully moving through pattens, issues and events that undesirably affect our lives.

EquiLateral EMDR + Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

Horses (equines) are used in many valuable forms of therapies (both mounted/riding and groundwork) to help with physical disabilities, emotional issues and personal development.  My use of horses does not therapeutic riding or mounted work.  As sentient beings and animals of prey, horses possess innate awareness and sensitivity to their surroundings, including people. Horses very survival depends upon this. Developed by Sarah Jenkins, EquiLateral EMDR and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy integrates the presence of horses to support any phase of EMDR and other therapy approaches. They mirror emotions we may or may not be aware of, teach us how to be present and nonjudgmental, and stand witness while we process and release painful memories and feelings.

EquiLateral EMDR is limited to 16 years of age and older.

The No Surprises Billing Act went into effect on January 1, 2022. The law is intended to protect patients from receiving surprise bills for medical treatment. The new law requires healthcare providers and facilities (including mental health providers) to provide Good Faith Estimates to uninsured, out-of-network, or self-paying clients for services offered when scheduling care or when the client requests an estimate.  A Good Faith Estimate will be provided during the admission process.
